La tradizione a Cosentini di Montecorice. Nel borgo del salernitano Le maschere di Carnuluvaro mio (foto) torneranno a percorrere le strade caratteristiche, come ogni anno, oggi, domenica 15, e martedì 17 febbraio. L’appuntamento, organizzato sotto la guida dell’Associazione Euphória, si svolge col Patrocinio del Comune di Montecorice e della Provincia di Salerno.
Carnuluvaro mio. La ballata di Zeza è stato inserito, nel 2023, nel catalogo del Patrimonio Immateriale della Campania (sezione espressioni). Una festa per tutta la comunità, che vede la partecipazione di persone di tutte le età, dai bambini agli anziani. “L’entusiasmo dei partecipanti è la spinta che ogni anno ci spinge ad andare avanti”, dicono da Euphória. “Soprattutto quando si parla di compaesani trapiantati in altre zone d’Italia che ci raggiungono appositamente per festeggiare il carnevale con noi”.
Un carnevale fatto di maschere antiche, quelle che le generazioni precedenti hanno tramandato: il Diavolo, la Morte, Zeza e suo marito Prucenella, protagonisti della Ballata insieme alla loro figlia Vicenzella; i mestieri di un tempo, come il Cardalana, e i protagonisti del mondo religioso, come il Confessastelle, l’Abate e il Monaco. E insieme a loro le persone comuni, coi loro difetti e vizi da prendere in giro.
Annuncerà l’arrivo dei maschkari, il suono della tofa, quest’anno prestata da Oltremare Castellabate di Marcello Di Biasi. Un gesto di generosità e solidarietà che l’Associazione ha accolto con gratitudine.
La novità di quest’anno: per rendere Carnuluvaro mio fruibile in ogni momento dell’anno, l’Associazione Euphória, con contributo dell’Ente Parco Nazionale del Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni, ha realizzato il Museo “Màschkari e suoni pe sta via… in allegria co sta bella compagnia”, un museo all’aperto sul Carnevale.
Il museo si compone di tavole di ceramica decorate con i momenti e i personaggi del Carnevale, distribuite lungo le vie del borgo; a ciascuna opera è associato un QR code che consente a chi lo inquadra di proseguire anche virtualmente il viaggio, rivivendo le scene del Carnevale attraverso la voce dei protagonisti e delle fonti.
La mascherata parte alle 14:30 da piazza Assunta, per poi proseguire verso il centro storico di Cosentini, dove si svolgerà la Ballata di Zeza. I festeggiamenti carnevaleschi si chiuderanno martedì grasso con la morte di Carnuluvaro, la lamentazione e il falò: il pupazzo che lo impersona verrà bruciato sulla piazza del paese.

Tradition in Cosentini di Montecorice. In the village of Salerno, the masks of Carnuluvaro mio will return to parade through the characteristic streets, as they do every year, today, Sunday the 15th, and Tuesday the 17th of February. The event, organised under the guidance of the Euphória Association, is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Montecorice and the Province of Salerno.
Carnuluvaro mio. La ballata di Zeza was included in the 2023 catalogue of the Intangible Heritage of Campania (expressions section). It is a celebration for the whole community, involving people of all ages, from children to the elderly. “The enthusiasm of the participants is what drives us forward every year,” say Euphória. ‘Especially when it comes to fellow villagers who have moved to other parts of Italy and come back especially to celebrate Carnival with us.’
A Carnival made up of ancient masks, those handed down by previous generations: the Devil, Death, Zeza and her husband Prucenella, protagonists of the Ballad together with their daughter Vicenzella; the trades of yesteryear, such as the Cardalana, and the protagonists of the religious world, such as the Confessastelle, the Abbot and the Monk. And along with them, ordinary people, with their faults and vices to be mocked.
The arrival of the maschkari will be announced by the sound of the tofa, lent this year by Marcello Di Biasi’s Oltremare Castellabate. A gesture of generosity and solidarity that the Association has welcomed with gratitude.
The novelty this year: to make Carnuluvaro mio accessible at any time of the year, the Euphória Association, with the contribution of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park Authority, has created the Museum “Màschkari e suoni pe sta via… in allegria co sta bella compagnia” (Masks and sounds for this street… in joy with this beautiful company), an open-air museum about Carnival.
The museum consists of ceramic panels decorated with scenes and characters from the Carnival, distributed along the streets of the village. Each work has a QR code that allows those who scan it to continue their journey virtually, reliving the scenes of the Carnival through the voices of the protagonists and sources.
The masquerade starts at 2.30 pm from Piazza Assunta and then continues towards the historic centre of Cosentini, where the Ballata di Zeza will take place. The carnival celebrations will end on Fat Tuesday with the death of Carnuluvaro, the lamentation and the bonfire: the puppet representing him will be burned in the town square.
