A Procida la sagra del mare, fino al 30 luglio. Così l’intera isola si trasforma in un vero e proprio teatro a cielo aperto. Un festival che racconta non soltanto la cultura e la tradizione dell’isola, ma anche il suo rapporto viscerale con il mare, infinito e vivo come i suoi isolani, e che nasce dalla volontà dei procidani di valorizzare le tradizioni marinaresche, le storie dei pescatori, la cultura del lavoro e della navigazione e i rituali della vita insulare, culminando con l’attesa elezione di Graziella, simbolo dell’identità, della femminilità e della cultura procidane.
Tra i momenti più importanti: la Santa Messa in memoria dei caduti, con il rito del lancio in mare della corona floreale (25 luglio), la presentazione all’isola delle candidate a Graziella, il Procida Blues Festival, i live a Marina Grande di Le One (28 luglio), The Kolors (29 luglio) eJoe Barbieri (30 luglio), i “Giochi a mare” (la gara in kayak, la corsa delle tinozze, il tiro alla fune) attraverso cui le forme ludiche antiche rivivono tra i procidani.
La manifestazione culmina domenica 27 luglio, con l’elezione di Graziella, la giovane procidana (foto) che più ricorderà, secondo la giuria, la figura ispirata al celebre romanzo di Alphonse de Lamartine, una ragazza nata e cresciuta a Procida in un’umile casa di pescatori.
Concorrono giovani isolane, tra i 15 e i 25 anni, che indosseranno tutte il tradizionale costume procidano realizzato con tessuti pregiati e ricami in oro realizzati a mano (una veste ed un cappottino dal taglio orientale, con intagli e ricami in seta e fili d’oro, un fazzoletto per i capelli e delle scarpette coordinate), a testimonianza delle contaminazioni culturali e degli scambi commerciali nei secoli dell’isola con il Mediterraneo e l’Oriente.
Per agevolare la partecipazione agli eventi anche durante le ore serali, durante i giorni della Sagra saranno attivate corse straordinarie notturne da e per Procida, operate dalla compagnia Ippocampo.

Procida hosts the Sagra del Mare (Sea Festival) until July 30th. The entire island is transformed into a veritable open-air theater. This festival showcases not only the island’s culture and traditions, but also its deep connection with the sea, as infinite and alive as its inhabitants.
It stems from the desire of the people of Procida to celebrate their maritime traditions, the stories of fishermen, the culture of work and navigation, and the rituals of island life, culminating in the eagerly awaited election of Graziella, a symbol of Procida’s identity, femininity, and culture.
Among the highlights: the Holy Mass in memory of the fallen, with the ritual of throwing a floral wreath into the sea (July 25th), the presentation of the Graziella candidates on the island, the Procida Blues Festival, live performances in Marina Grande by Le One (July 28th), The Kolors (July 29th), and Joe Barbieri (July 30th), and the “Games at Sea” (kayak racing, tub racing, and tug-of-war) through which ancient forms of play are revived among the people of Procida.
The event culminates on Sunday, July 27th, with the election of Graziella, the young woman from Procida (photo) who, according to the jury, most resembles the character inspired by Alphonse de Lamartine’s famous novel, a girl born and raised in Procida in a humble fisherman’s house.
Young island women, aged 15 to 25, will compete, all wearing the traditional Procida costume made of fine fabrics and hand-embroidered in gold (a dress and a coat with an oriental style, featuring carvings and embroidery in silk and gold thread, a head scarf, and matching shoes), reflecting the island’s centuries-old cultural influences and trade with the Mediterranean and the Orient.
To facilitate participation in the events even during the evening hours, special nighttime trips to and from Procida will be operated by the Ippocampo company during the festival.
