“Elvira Notari day”. Sabato 7 febbraio al Teatro Bolivar di Napoli doppio appuntamento dedicato alla pioniera del muto napoletano e prima regista italiana, realizzato con il patrocinio del Comitato Nazionale Elvira Notari 150.
Prosegue così il percorso di riscoperta e valorizzazione di questa grande protagonista del cinema avviato il 10 febbraio dello scorso anno (nel giorno della sua nascita avvenuta nel 1875 a Salerno) con la rassegna Elvira 150 ideata da Antonella Di Nocera.
Si comincia alle 18.30 con la proiezione di “Elvira Notari. Oltre il silenzio” (2025, 89’), documentario di Valerio Ciriaci prodotto da Parallelo 41, Awen Films e Luce Cinecittà, realizzato con il sostegno della Film Commission Regione Campania e del Comune di Napoli.
Dopo la prima mondiale alla 82ª Mostra di Venezia, in concorso nella sezione Venezia Classici, documentari sul Cinema, il film è stato ovunque accolto calorosamente e ha avviato un lungo percorso di proiezioni e incontri in tutta Italia, con sale gremite e numerosi sold out.
In aprile il film sarà in tour negli Usa, dove non andò mai anche se i suoi film raccontarono l’Italia del tempo in America. Un’iniziativa ha riporta al centro dell’attenzione una figura decisiva, a lungo rimasta ai margini della storia ufficiale, autrice di oltre 60 lungometraggi e di centinaia di corti e documentari tra il 1910 e il 1930 nella Napoli dove visse e lavorò, sperimentando visioni future e fondando la Dora Film.
Alle 21 la serata al Bolivar prosegue con la proiezione di ’A santanotte (1922, 61’), nella versione restaurata da CSC–Cineteca Nazionale e nella forma del cineconcerto. Le immagini rivivono accompagnate da musiche originali eseguite dal vivo dal Silent Frame Ensemble, con partitura di Michele Signore che èin scena (al violino e ai plettri) insieme ad Anastasia Cecere (flauti), Simona Frasca (clarinetto), Umberto Maisto (chitarre e plettri), Dolores Melodia (voce e fisarmonica).

Bolivar Theatre/ Tribute to Elvira Notari, pioneer of silent films and first female director in Italian cinema (7 February)
“Elvira Notari Day”. Saturday, the 7th of February, at the Bolivar Theatre in Naples, a double event dedicated to the pioneer of Neapolitan silent films and the first Italian female director, organised under the patronage of the Elvira Notari 150 National Committee.
This appointmentcontinues the journey of rediscovery and appreciation of this great cinema star, which began on the 10th of February last year (the day of her birth in 1875 in Salerno) with the Elvira 150 exhibition conceived by Antonella Di Nocera.
The event begins at 6.30 pm with the screening of “Elvira Notari. Oltre il silenzio” (Elvira Notari. Beyond Silence) (2025, 89′), a documentary by Valerio Ciriaci produced by Parallelo 41, Awen Films and Luce Cinecittà, made with the support of the Campania Region Film Commission and the Municipality of Naples.
After its world premiere at the 82nd Venice Film Festival, in competition in the Venice Classics section, documentaries on cinema, the film was warmly received everywhere and began a long series of screenings and meetings throughout Italy, with packed theatres and numerous sold-out shows.
In April, the film will tour the USA, where she never went, even though her films told the story of Italy at the time in the States. This initiative brings back into the spotlight a decisive figure who has long remained on the margins of official history, the author of over 60 feature films and hundreds of short films and documentaries between 1910 and 1930 in Naples, where she lived and worked, experimenting with future visions and founding Dora Film.
At 9 p.m., the evening at the Bolivar continues with the screening of “A santanotte (1922, 61”), in the version restored by CSC–Cineteca Nazionale and in the form of a cine-concert. The images are brought to life accompanied by original music performed live by the Silent Frame Ensemble, with a score by Michele Signore, who is on stage (on violin and plectrums) together with Anastasia Cecere (flutes), Simona Frasca (clarinet), Umberto Maisto (guitars and plectrums) and Dolores Melodia (vocals and accordion).
