Space 7 / Vascerìa: artists’ visions through the contradictions of Naples. This is how the visible meets what is often hidden

Vascerìa. A group exhibition bringing together artists from the international scene at the Spazio 57 Art Gallery, 57 Via Chiatamone, Naples. A project made possible thanks to the curatorship and collaboration of Melania Fusaro and Federica Guida.
It is said that Naples was born from a song, and that that song was one of love, but also of sorrow. Because Naples is never just one thing.
It is light bursting upon the façades, voice, excess, irony, vitality. But beneath that dazzling surface there is always another city: lower, slower, darker. From this contradiction, Vascerìa is born.
The starting point is the ‘vascio’, the Neapolitan ground floor: a space that does not overlook the street from above, but meets it at the same level. The house brushes against the alleyway, the private sphere emerges into the public space, and the interior and exterior almost merge.
Vascerìa takes this image as its starting point and transforms it into an inner metaphor. It is the place where light coexists with twilight, euphoria with melancholy, what we show with what we keep hidden. A more intimate counterpoint to the vitality of Naples, capable of recounting not only its energy, but also its shadows, its memory, its anticipation and all that remains suspended beneath the surface.
The exhibition offers a view of the city through its contradictions, its bursts of energy, its fragilities and that constant oscillation between outside and inside, noise and silence, exposure and contemplation. A mental space even before a geographical one: thus the visible meets what often remains hidden.
