La fotografia ha sempre avuto il potere di catturare l’essenza della realtà, ma quando si avventura nel regno del metafisico e del surreale, diventa uno strumento per esplorare dimensioni invisibili e simbolismi profondi. In un mondo segnato dalle catastrofi delle guerre mondiali, la ricerca fotografica che intreccia queste tematiche offre uno sguardo unico sulla storia umana, una narrazione visiva capace di provocare emozioni e riflessioni.
Queste mie ultime fotografie trascendono il semplice atto di scattare immagini; si tratta di un viaggio nell’anima delle persone, un tentativo di catturare l’invisibile che si cela dietro gli eventi storici. Le cicatrici lasciate dai conflitti globali sono evidenti, ma ci sono anche le ombre e i silenzi, le storie non raccontate di chi ha subito e di chi ha combattuto.
Attraverso i filtri dell’arte, si esplorano l’essenza delle emozioni umane, utilizzando elementi surreali per evidenziare il dolore e la speranza. Ogni immagine scattata in questo contesto è carica di simboli. Questi simboli non solo evocano la memoria collettiva delle guerre, ma invitano anche lo spettatore a confrontarsi con la propria interpretazione della sofferenza e della rinascita.
La scelta delle forme, la composizione e l’illuminazione diventano strumenti per raccontare storie che vanno oltre il visibile. La componente surreale nella mia ricerca fotografica entra in gioco quando la realtà viene “distorta”, creando immagini che sembrano uscire da un sogno. In questo contesto, il surreale non vuole negare il dolore, ma amplificarlo, portando lo spettatore a una dimensione di comprensione più profonda, scenari onirici, ricchi di significati nascosti.
Questo approccio sfida l’osservatore a riflettere su quale sia il confine tra la realtà e l’immaginazione, tra ciò che è stato e ciò che potrebbe essere. Questo lavoro fotografico surreale e simbolico sulle catastrofi delle guerre mondiali non è solo un documento, ma un invito a vedere oltre le immagini superficiali.
È un richiamo a esplorare le emozioni e le esperienze umane, a confrontarsi con il passato e a trovare un significato profondo nella bellezza e nel dolore. Attraverso l’arte, le storie di milioni di vite perdute e trasformate continuano a vivere, incoraggiandoci a mantenere viva la memoria e a guardare al futuro con occhi nuovi.

L’AUTORE
Augusto De Luca, (Napoli, 1 luglio 1955) è un fotografo e performer. Ha ritratto molti personaggi celebri. Studi classici, laureato in giurisprudenza. E’ diventato fotografo professionista nella metà degli anni ’70. Si è dedicato alla fotografia tradizionale e alla sperimentazione utilizzando diversi materiali fotografici . Il suo stile è caratterizzato da un’attenzione particolare per le inquadrature e per le minime unità espressive dell’oggetto inquadrato. Immagini di netto realismo sono affiancate da altre nelle quali forme e segni correlandosi ricordano la lezione della metafisica. E’ conosciuto a livello internazionale, ha esposto in molte gallerie italiane ed estere. Le sue fotografie compaiono in collezioni pubbliche e private come quelle della International Polaroid Collection (USA), della Biblioteca Nazionale di Parigi, dell’Archivio Fotografico Comunale di Roma, della Galleria Nazionale delle Arti Estetiche della Cina (Pechino), del Museo de la Photographie di Charleroi (Belgio).

Photography has always had the power to capture the essence of reality, but when it enters the realm of the metaphysical and the surreal, it becomes a tool for exploring invisible dimensions and profound symbolism. In a world marked by the catastrophes of the world wars, the photographic research that weaves these themes together offers a unique perspective on human history, a visual narrative capable of provoking emotions and reflection.
My latest photographs transcend the simple act of taking pictures; they are a journey into the soul of people, an attempt to capture the invisible that lies behind historical events. The scars left by global conflicts are evident, but there are also the shadows and silences, the untold stories of those who suffered and those who fought.
Through the lens of art, the essence of human emotions is explored, using surreal elements to highlight pain and hope. Every image captured in this context is loaded with symbols. These symbols not only evoke the collective memory of wars, but also invite the viewer to confront their own interpretation of suffering and rebirth.
The choice of forms, composition and lighting become tools used to tell stories that go beyond the visible. The surreal element in my photographic work plays a role when reality is ‘distorted’, creating images that seem to emerge from a dream. In this context, the surreal does not seek to deny pain, but to amplify it, leading the viewer to a deeper level of understanding, to dreamlike scenarios rich in hidden meanings.
This approach challenges the observer to reflect on the boundary between reality and imagination, between what has been and what might be. This surreal and symbolic photographic work on the catastrophes of the world wars is not merely a document, but an invitation to look beyond superficial images.
It is a call to explore human emotions and experiences, to confront the past and to find profound meaning in beauty and pain. Through art, the stories of millions of lives lost and changed continue to live on, encouraging us to keep the memory alive and to look to the future with fresh eyes.
THE AUTHOR
Augusto De Luca (born on the 1st of July 1955 in Naples) is a photographer and performer. He has photographed many famous people. He studied classics and has a degree in law. He became a professional photographer in the mid-1970s. He has devoted himself to traditional photography and experimentation using various photographic materials. His style is characterised by a particular attention to framing and to the smallest expressive units of the subject. Images of stark realism are juxtaposed with others in which interrelated forms and signs evoke the principles of metaphysics. He is internationally known and has exhibited in many galleries in Italy and abroad. His photographs are included in public and private collections such as the International Polaroid Collection (USA), the National Library of Paris, the Municipal Photographic Archive of Rome, the National Gallery of Fine Arts of China (Beijing) and the Museum of Photography in Charleroi (Belgium).
