“Nicholas Tolosa: il pittore degli sguardi”. Venerdì 17 ottobre alle 17:45 nel salone degli Specchi dell’Istituto Pontano (Palazzo Cariati) a Napoli sarà proiettato il docufilm diretto da Umberto Santacroce, che offre un ritratto intimo e profondo di un giovane e talentuoso pittore campano.
Si esplora l’influenza della città di Napoli, fonte inesauribile di stimoli e ispirazione, sulla crescita artistica del protagonista, conducendo lo spettatore nei vicoli e nelle atmosfere urbane che ne hanno plasmato la sensibilità.
Le opere dell’artista mettono in luce le sofferenze generate dalla guerra, dalla violenza e dall’intolleranza. Tolosa si concentra principalmente sui volti e, in particolare, sugli sguardi dei suoi soggetti, che diventano la chiave di lettura della sua arte e il veicolo principale del suo messaggio di denuncia.
Il docufilm alterna interviste a esperti d’arte, giornalisti e direttori di musei, a sequenze suggestive in cui l’artista stesso si muove nel contesto urbano. Filo conduttore, una voce fuori campo parte dalla biografia artistica per giungere a una riflessione universale sul ruolo dell’arte come specchio della realtà.
L’artista Nicholas Tolosa e il regista Umberto Santacroce saranno presenti in sala, insieme alla curatrice Mariagrazia Paturzo, che introdurrà la proiezione.

Nicholas Tolosa: the painter of gazes. On Friday the 17th of October at 5:45 p.m. in the Hall of Mirrors at the Pontano Institute (Palazzo Cariati) in Naples, a documentary film directed by Umberto Santacroce will be screened, offering an intimate and profound portrait of a young and talented painter from Campania.
It explores the influence of the city of Naples, an inexhaustible source of stimulation and inspiration, on the artistic growth of the protagonist, leading the audience through the alleys and urban atmospheres that shaped his sensibility.
The artist’s works highlight the suffering caused by war, violence and intolerance. Tolosa focuses mainly on faces and, in particular, on the gazes of his subjects, which become the key to understanding his art and the main vehicle for his message of denunciation.
The documentary film alternates interviews with art experts, journalists and museum directors among evocative sequences in which the artist himself moves around the urban context. The main guideline is a voiceover that starts from the artist’s biography and leads to a universal reflection on the role of art as a mirror of reality.
The artist Nicholas Tolosa and the director Umberto Santacroce will be present in the projection room, together with the curator Mariagrazia Paturzo, who will introduce the screening.
