“Sacro pane”. Un progetto artistico di Mario Ciaramella (classe 1956) per la chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, in corso San Giovanni a Teduccio. L’iniziativa, a cura di Carla Travierso, è organizzata dall’associazione culturale Officine artistiche vesuviane, promossa e finanziata dal Comune di Napoli, nell’ambito della programmazione Visioni contemporanee.
Il progetto, che si inaugura oggi pomeriggio alle 18, nasce dalle ricerche che l’artista sannita ha dedicato all’Ultima cena, in particolare da alcuni disegni sul tema, da cui deriva la serie di sculture qui presentata.
Ciaramella allestisce nella navata settecentesca un cenacolo contemporaneo, dando vita alle sue figure di Gesù e dei dodici apostoli. Così fa rivivere il rito della condivisione del pane, primo nutrimento e simbolo della salvezza dell’uomo.
Fino al 14 maggio, l’installazione condividerà lo spazio con le attività liturgiche della chiesa, rappresentando un punto di aggregazione e ispirazione per gli abitanti del quartiere.
Durante il periodo della mostra si svolgeranno visite guidate e incontri di approfondimento, a partecipazione libera. In particolare, il 13, 14 e 15 aprile Ciaramella terrà un workshop di linoleografia per condurre i partecipanti alla scoperta di questa antica tecnica di stampa d’arte, dalla progettazione del disegno all’incisione in linoleum, fino alla preparazione a inchiostro del supporto e al trasferimento su carta.
La mostra si potrà visitare gratuitamente dal lunedì al sabato dalle 10 alle 12.30. Sarà aperta anche di pomeriggio dal lunedì al venerdì dalle ore 17 alle 19. Chiusa il martedì pomeriggio.

San Giovanni a Teduccio / Church of St John the Baptist: with his installation “Sacro pane”, Mario Ciaramella brings the (contemporary) Last Supper to life
“Sacred bread”. An art project by Mario Ciaramella (born in 1956) for the Church of St John the Baptist, in Corso San Giovanni a Teduccio. The initiative, curated by Carla Travierso, is organised by the cultural association Officine artistiche vesuviane, and promoted and funded by the City of Naples as part of the “Contemporary Visions” programme.
The project, which opens this afternoon at 6 pm, stems from the research the Samnite artist has devoted to The Last Supper, in particular from a number of drawings on the theme, from which the series of sculptures presented here derives.
Ciaramella sets up a contemporary Last Supper in the 18th-century nave, bringing to life his figures of Jesus and the twelve apostles. In this way, he revives the ritual of sharing bread, the first sustenance and symbol of human salvation.
Until the 14th of May, the installation will share the space with the church’s liturgical activities, serving as a gathering place and source of inspiration for local residents.
During the exhibition period, guided tours and in-depth talks will take place, with free admission. In particular, on 13, 14 and 15 April, Ciaramella will hold a linocut workshop to guide participants through the discovery of this ancient art printing technique, from designing the drawing to engraving the linoleum, through to preparing the surface with ink and transferring the image onto paper.
The exhibition is open to the public free of charge from Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 12.30 pm. It is also open in the afternoons from Monday to Friday, 5 pm to 7 pm. Closed on Tuesday afternoons.
