“La diaspora delle vele”. Al cinema Metropolitan ieri la proiezione del documentario Sky original, prodotto da Cattleya, diretto da Francesca Comencini che racconta il dolore, l’attesa e la speranza della comunità di Scampia dopo la tragedia della Vela Celeste del luglio 2024.
All’incontro con la regista, che segue l’anteprima mondiale al Festival del Cinema di Roma dell’ottobre scorso, hanno preso parte il sindaco di Napoli Gaetano Manfredi, la sua vicesindaco e assessora all’Urbanistica Laura Lieto, e i rappresentanti del Comitato delle Vele.
Il film documenta con estrema sensibilità il frammentarsi di una comunità che, dopo l’evacuazione forzata di quasi 2000 persone, attende oggi di ricomporsi in una nuova dimensione abitativa e sociale. Il documentario è disponibile on demand su Sky e in streaming su NOW.
Durante la manifestazione è stata annunciata la prima edizione del corso in produzione cinematografica “Nuovo cinema 167”, realizzato in collaborazione tra Cattleya, Sky, Comune di Napoli e Comitato Vele di Scampia, che si terrà a Napoli a partire dal prossimo maggio.
Spiega la regista: «Con questo documentario ho voluto restituire la parola agli abitanti delle Vele, passando dalla finzione di Gomorra alla realtà di un popolo che, pur nell’emergenza della diaspora, manifesta un radicamento profondo e una dignità straordinaria. Il desiderio di tornare a Scampia non è solo nostalgia, ma la rivendicazione di un diritto all’appartenenza: in quel luogo si è costruita una ‘famiglia’ di vicinato che sconfigge la solitudine moderna, trasformando un dramma abitativo in una riflessione universale sul bisogno umano di comunità e identità».
Il Comune di Napoli ha colto l’occasione per fare il punto sull’avanzamento del piano di rigenerazione, che ha subito una accelerazione nell’ultimo anno:
Sgomberi e Sistemazione: Da gennaio 2025 nessuna famiglia risiede più nelle Vele. Gli abitanti percepiscono il Contributo di Autonoma Sistemazione (CAS) in attesa dei nuovi alloggi.
Abbattimenti: Completata la demolizione della Vela Gialla; sono attualmente in corso le operazioni per la Vela Rossa.
Nuove Costruzioni: Entro l’estate 2026 saranno pronti i primi 5 edifici (163 alloggi totali).
Servizi sociali: All’inizio del 2026 è partito il cantiere per il Civic Center e l’Asilo Nido, con fine lavori prevista entro l’anno.
Vela Celeste: È in via di completamento il recupero dell’unica struttura che resterà in piedi, fatta eccezione per l’area ancora sotto sequestro giudiziario.

“The diaspora of the sails”. Yesterday at the Metropolitan cinema, there was a screening of the Sky Original documentary, produced by Cattleya and directed by Francesca Comencini, which recounts the pain, the waiting and the hope of the Scampia community following the tragedy at the Vela Celeste in July 2024.
The meeting with the director, which followed the world premiere at the Rome Film Festival last October, was attended by the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, his Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Urban Planning, Laura Lieto, and representatives of the Vele Committee.
The film sensitively documents the fragmentation of a community which, following the forced evacuation of almost 2,000 people, now awaits the chance to rebuild itself within a new residential and social context. The documentary is available on demand on Sky and via streaming on NOW.
During the event, the first edition of the film production course “Nuovo cinema 167” was announced, organised in collaboration between Cattleya, Sky, the City of Naples and the Vele di Scampia Committee, which will take place in Naples from next May.
The film director explains: “With this documentary, I wanted to give a voice back to the residents of Le Vele, moving away from the fiction of *Gomorra* towards the reality of a community which, even in the midst of the diaspora, demonstrates deep-rootedness and extraordinary dignity. The desire to return to Scampia is not merely nostalgia, but a claim to a right of belonging: in that place, a neighbourhood ‘family’ has been built that overcomes modern loneliness, transforming a housing crisis into a universal reflection on the human need for community and identity.”
The City of Naples has taken the opportunity to take stock of the progress of the regeneration plan, which has accelerated over the past year: evictions and Rehousing: From January 2025, no families will remain in the Vele. Residents are receiving the Independent Rehousing Allowance (CAS) whilst awaiting new accommodation.
Demolitions: Demolition of the Vela Gialla has been completed; work is currently underway on the Vela Rossa.
New construction: The first five buildings (163 homes in total) will be ready by summer 2026.
Social services: Construction of the Civic Centre and the nursery began in early 2026, with work expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Vela Celeste: The restoration of the only structure that will remain standing is nearing completion, with the exception of the area still under judicial seizure.
