Museums in Campania / The European Heritage Days are back: renew, persevere and reinvent (26 th – 27th September)
The European Heritage Days are back – the major cultural event that each year involves cultural sites across Europe, promoted in Italy by the Ministry of Culture through the Directorate-General for Museums. Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th of September.
“Protecting our heritage. Renewing, resisting, reinventing” invites us to reflect on the challenges currently facing our cultural and landscape heritage, including climate change, natural disasters, social and technological transformations, and conflicts. It is an opportunity to rediscover the value of conservation as a shared responsibility and to imagine new forms of care, accessibility and participation, so that our heritage continues to be a living resource for communities and future generations.
Once again this year, the Campania Regional Directorate of National Museums is presenting a programme of events and special openings in collaboration with local organisations, cultural institutions and associations, with a view to fostering an inclusive and widespread cultural network.
On the 26th and 27th of September, talks, hands-on experiences and guided tours – including at unusual times – will offer the public the chance to gain an in-depth understanding of the histories of our sites, reflect on the challenges of their conservation and rediscover the link between heritage, community and the future.
At the heart of the campaign is a promotional video produced by the Campania Region with the support of Scabec: a visual narrative that takes viewers on a journey through the region’s museums, archaeological sites, monumental complexes and landscapes, interpreting the four key words of this year’s edition – protect, renew, resist, reinvent – and transforming them into an invitation to discover and experience Campania’s cultural heritage.
As part of the GEP, the Campania Region has also brought together three Neapolitan cultural institutions – the Mondragone Foundation – Fashion Museum, the Church of Santa Maria Incoronata and the Madre Museum – in the ‘Trame Mediterranee’ project, featuring initiatives exploring the theme of fabric through the prism of art, conservation, memory and contemporary practices.
