Quello che leggerete è un atto di resistenza collettivo e necessario. A raccontare la storia è un ultranovantenne che ricorda i giorni in cui l’amicizia diventò patto di sangue, i giorni in cui il cassetto dei sogni fu sacrificato e lanciato contro il nemico. I giorni in cui l’illusione di estirpare per sempre il male dal mondo sembrò più vera che mai.
“Napoli 1943. Sotto chi tene core” è il primo lavoro letterario di Roberto Colella, frontman della band La Maschera. Un libro da leggere tutto d’un fiato che vuole rievocare un pezzo importantissimo della storia di Napoli, le 4 Giornate di Napoli in cui Colella ci racconta la Napoli del 1943, la città che resiste al nazifascismo, che sale sulle barricate, con Maddalena Cerasuolo e Gennarino Capuozzo.
È nato dall’incontro tra Colella e Rosario Esposito La Rossa, fondatore de ‘La Scugnizzeria’. «Per noi Roberto – sottolinea l’editore della Marotta e Cafiero – è un valore aggiunto del nostro pezzo di città, una risorsa da valorizzare. La nostra casa editrice vuole essere innanzitutto un hub culturale che metta insieme risorse positive del territorio»

Del libro parliamo con l’autore.
Roberto, com’è nato “Napoli 1943 – Sotto chi tene core” che è anche il titolo di un tuo brano.
«È nato appunto con il desiderio di raccontare una parte del sottotesto della canzone. Spesso mi capita di scrivere canzoni immaginando storie molto ampie, e a gennaio 2022, quando fu concepito, mi concentrai su un’idea di narrazione che ampliasse la forma canzone. Ecco perciò il racconto breve».
Perché lo hai scritto?
«La spinta ‘motrice’ è stata forse il risultato di un periodo di ‘reclusione forzata’; ma anche, come dicevo, il desiderio di voler regalare all’ascoltatore un’esperienza approfondita sul senso di una canzone, sulla storia di cui si fa carico. Storia chiaramente legata alle Quattro Giornate di Napoli. Perché questa vicenda e non altre? Perché credo nell’importanza della memoria e perché talvolta anche un grido di battaglia può fare tanto»
In questo volume, come nel tuo brano dal titolo “Sotto chi tene core”, parli di resistenza. Qualcosa che va al di là della sua valenza politica. Cosa vuol dire per te la resistenza?
«La resistenza di cui parlo non ha bandiera o partito. È resistenza necessaria e violenta. Quella che, spalle al muro, risulta essere unica via di scampo. Ci addentriamo in un’epoca dal sapore sempre più amaro e, ‘Resistenza’, oggi, per me significa crescere e sviluppare un pensiero critico: studiare dando il giusto peso e attenzione alle fonti ma anche vivere dando il giusto peso alle azioni. Scendere in piazza, manifestare, responsabilizzarsi e lottare contro la deriva disumana che ha preso il nostro tempo»
Cosa vuoi trasmettere attraverso queste pagine?
«Il brivido di immaginarsi lì. Il coraggio di un popolo. L’importanza del sacrificio e l’amarezza del senso intrinseco della parola ‘rivoluzione’: un movimento circolare che presto o tardi torna al punto di partenza».
Roberto Colella è compositore e polistrumentista, nonché frontman de ‘La Maschera’. Il gruppo fondato nel 2013 raggiunge fin da subito un buon successo di ascolti e pubblico. Autore di testi e musiche dei tre album: ‘O vicolo ‘e l’alleria (2014), ParcoSofia (2017) e Sotto chi tene core (2022). Quest’ultimo è dedicato a storie di resistenza sociale e riscatto sentimentale.

A postcard from a past so remote it seems near. Quattro Giornate (Four Days), the city frees itself from the Nazis. Barricades, scugnizzi who become guerrillas. What you will read is a collective and necessary act of resistance. The story is told by a man over ninety years old who remembers the days when friendship became a pact of blood, the days when the drawer of dreams was sacrificed and thrown against the enemy. The days when the illusion of eradicating evil from the world forever seemed truer than ever.
‘Napoli 1943. Sotto chi tene core’ is the first literary work by Roberto Colella, frontman of the band La Maschera. It is a book to be read in one go that recalls a very important piece of Naples’ history, the 4 Days of Naples, in which Colella tells us about Naples in 1943, the city that resists Nazi-Fascism, that rises to the barricades, with Maddalena Cerasuolo and Gennarino Capuozzo.
It was born from the meeting between Colella and Rosario Esposito La Rossa, founder of ‘La Scugnizzeria’. ‘For us, Roberto,’ emphasises the Marotta e Cafiero publisher, ‘is an added value of our piece of town, a resource to be enhanced. Our publishing house wants to be first and foremost a cultural hub that brings together positive local resources’.
We talk to the author about the book.
Roberto, how ‘Napoli 1943 – Sotto chi tene core’ was born, which is also the title of one of your songs.
«It was born precisely with the desire to tell a part of the subtext of the song. I often write songs by imagining very broad stories, and in January 2022, when it was conceived, I focused on a narrative idea that would expand the song form. Hence the short story».
Why did you write it?
«The ‘driving’ impulse was perhaps the result of a period of ‘forced confinement’; but also, as I said, the desire to want to give the listener an in-depth experience of the meaning of a song, of the history it takes on. A history clearly linked to the Four Days of Naples. Why this story and not others? Because I believe in the importance of memory and because sometimes even a battle cry can do so much».
In this volume, as in your piece entitled ‘Sotto chi tene core’, you speak of resistance. Something that goes beyond its political significance. What does resistance mean to you? «The resistance I am talking about has no flag or party. It is necessary and violent resistance. That which, with its back to the wall, turns out to be the only way out. We are entering an era with an increasingly bitter taste and, ‘resistance’, today, for me means growing and developing critical thinking: studying by giving due weight and attention to sources but also living by giving due weight to actions. Taking to the streets, demonstrating, taking responsibility and fighting against the inhuman drift that our time has taken».
What do you want to convey through these pages?
«The thrill of imagining oneself there. The courage of a people. The importance of sacrifice and the bitterness of the intrinsic meaning of the word ‘revolution’: a circular movement that sooner or later returns to the starting point».
