Venezia a Napoli.

Venice in Naples / Cinema is not only extensive but also widespread: the programme kicks off on the 3rd of November with Kasia Smutniak’s Mustang at the Modernissimo

Venice in Naples. “Il cinema esteso” from the 3rd to the 8th of November. Among the 42 screenings, featuring works from 18 countries, are exclusive screenings of major international films that have won awards at the Lido.
The festival, launched in 2011 in collaboration with the management of the Venice International Film Festival, is conceived and directed by Antonella Di Nocera and organised by Parallelo 41 Produzioni, with the support of the Campania Region and the Campania Region Film Commission, and under the patronage and support of Naples City Council.
As well as in Neapolitan cinemas – Modernissimo, Sala Assoli, Vittoria, La Perla and the Institut français Napoli – screenings will also take place in Aversa, Casalnuovo, Capua, Avellino and Anacapri. This is a way of bringing great arthouse cinema to places where it is less readily available, whilst supporting cinema owners, operators and curators who have been championing it in these areas for years.
The festival kicks off on the 3rd of November with Kasia Smutniak’s Mustang at the Modernissimo. This is an exclusive screening in the city following the film’s award at the Rome Film Festival. In 2003, Kasia and Pietro Taricone had only just met when, with rucksacks on their backs and a small camera in hand, they set off for the Mustang region, where they made a promise to one another: to return one day and do something to protect that culture.
Among the most eagerly awaited guests at the festival are the Russian director Ilya Khrzhanovsky (Dau – Silver Lion for Best Director); the Iranian Mohsen Gharaei (Orizzonti Award for Best Actress in his film Falling House, awarded to Laleh Marzban); Cameroonian director Auguste Bernard Kouemo Yanghu (La maison du vent – Orizzonti Special Jury Prize and Lion of the Future – ‘Luigi De Laurentiis’ Venice First Film Award); and Oscar-winner Asif Kapadia.
On Saturday the 7th of November at Cinema La Perla (6.30 pm), from the Orizzonti section, Anna Foglietta will be in the cinema with the audience before and after the screening of her directorial debut, Una storia.
And at Cinema Vittoria (9.00 pm), from the Giornate section, there will be Il massacro by Cosimo Messeri, winner of the 2026 SIAE Creative Talent Award. Also an actor and musician, the director – having previously collaborated with Nanni Moretti and Carlo Mazzacurati – made the documentary The One Man Beatles, nominated for a David di Donatello Award, and the film Metti una notte, which won an award at the Rome Film Festival.
With Il massacro, he returns to tell his story both in front of and behind the camera, also writing the screenplay and composing the music. Messeri will be in conversation with the audience before and after the screening, alongside Fabio Ferzetti.
The programme officially concludes on Sunday the 8th of November at the Cinema Multiplex in Mercogliano with the ‘Dau’ event, attended by director Ilya Khrzhanovsky and organised in collaboration with Zia Lidia Social Club. Meanwhile, at the Vittoria (9.00 pm), there will be a grand finale featuring the arthouse documentary Imperium by Sergei Loznitsa, created using extraordinary archive footage from AAMOD. The film will be introduced by Marcello Anselmo.
But the programme will continue between the 9th and the 11th December with Claire Simon in Naples for three days of screenings and workshops in collaboration with the ‘Europa. Cinema al femminile’ festival. The director, one of the most important voices in French cinéma vérité, returns for the ‘Crescere nel cinema di Claire Simon’ programme, a series dedicated to her films on the younger generations, featuring two world premieres in Naples.
