La console generale degli Stati Uniti d’America, Tracy Roberts-Pounds incontrerà il pubblico della storica rassegna cinematografica ospitata nella sala di via De Meis, nella zona orientale del capoluogo campano, dove sarà proiettato “Till. Il coraggio di una madre”.
Il film di Chinonye Chukwu racconta la vera storia di Mamie Till-Mobley, una educatrice che dopo l’atroce omicidio del figlio Emmett diventa un’attivista per i diritti degli afroamericani.
Il brutale omicidio dell’adolescente di Chicago, accusato di essersi comportato in modo sbagliato nei confronti di una donna bianca, spinge sua madre, dopo un frettoloso processo, a denunciare pubblicamente l’ingiustizia ricevuta e il razzismo subìto dal quattordicenne.
Emmett è soltanto una delle migliaia di vittime della violenza e dell’odio mosse dal razzismo negli Usa dove, però, si è creato un fronte compatto per i diritti degli afroamericani. Lo testimoniano le numerose iniziative che, ogni anno, ricordano il sacrificio degli scomparsi e l’impegno degli attivisti: dal Martin Luther King Day, celebrato il 15 gennaio, al Rosa Parks Day che ricorre il 4 febbraio fino al 21 marzo, Giornata mondiale contro il razzismo.
In questo solco si inserisce la serata curata da Arci Movie insieme al consolato statunitense di Napoli presente in città sin dal 1796, una delle sedi diplomatiche americane più antiche.
La console visiterà gli spazi di Arci Movie, realtà associativa che promuove il sociale con l’utilizzo del linguaggio audiovisivo, nata dal 1990 proprio nel quartiere Ponticelli per promuovere iniziative socioculturali.

U.S. Consul General Tracy Roberts-Pounds will meet with the audience of the historic film festival held at the cinema in Via De Meis, in the eastern part of the Campania capital, where will be screened “Till. The courage of a mother”.
The film, directed by Chinonye Chukwu, tells the true story of Mamie Till Mobley, an educator who, after the brutal murder of her son Emmett, became an activist for the rights of African Americans.
The gruesome murder of the Chicago teenager, who was accused of misbehaving with a white woman, prompted his mother to publicly denounce the injustice and racism the 14-year-old suffered after a hasty trial.
Emmett is only one of thousands of victims of racist violence and discrimination in the U.S., where a strong and united front has emerged to defend the rights of African Americans. This is evidenced by the numerous initiatives that commemorate the sacrifice of the disappeared and the commitment of activists every year: from Martin Luther King Day, celebrated on January 15th, to Rosa Parks Day, celebrated on February 4th, to March 21st, World day against racism.
In this track is inserted the evening curated by Arci Movie together with the U.S. Consulate of Naples, present in the city since 1796, one of the oldest American diplomatic offices.
The consul will visit the spaces of Arci Movie, an associative reality that promotes social issues through the use of audiovisual language, founded in 1990 in the Ponticelli district to promote socio-cultural initiatives.
