Arrivano ad Amsterdan gli Ars Nova Napoli. Venerdì 23 gennaio il collettivo neo-folk calcherà il palco dello splendido e suggestivo scenario della Keizersgrachtkerk, per un concerto preannunciato sold out,organizzato dall’Istituto italiano di cultura della città.
L’iniziativa, inserita nel tour internazionale supportato dal ministero degli affari esteri e della cooperazione Internazionale (maeci), rivela, ancora una volta, la forza del manifesto musicale del mediterraneo unito di cui la band si fa portatrice.
Davanti a un pubblico internazionale e attento, gli Ars Nova Napoli trasformeranno la chiesa monumentale olandese in una piazza sonora con i ritmi del Sud Europa, ripercorrendo con fisarmonica, mandolino, chitarre battenti e voci la millenaria storia musicale di Napoli, intrisa di influenze greche, balcaniche e nord africane.
La tappa di Amsterdam rappresenta il preludio di un ulteriore, prestigioso riconoscimento. Il gruppo è stato infatti coinvolto a rappresentare la scena musicale del bacino mediterraneo alla prossima edizione di Babel Music XP – the Mediterranean hub for world music, in programma dal 19 al 21 Marzo 2026 a Marsiglia.
Il gruppo sarà presente con un proprio stand, curato in collaborazione con le istituzioni italiane, per presentare a professionisti, festival e promoter internazionali l’intero ecosistema del loro lavoro. Un progetto che va ben oltre il palco, includendo attività di interscambio culturale – workshop, masterclass, laboratori in ambiti accademici e istituzionali – attraverso cui promuovono la cultura popolare napoletana come linguaggio vivo e contemporaneo di dialogo.
Commenta il frontman della band, Marcello Squillante: «Questo doppio risultato – il calore del pubblico ad Amsterdam e la partecipazione al Babel Music XP – è la conferma che la strada intrapresa è giusta. Portare il nostro suono, che è un suono di incontro, in una chiesa olandese e poi nel cuore del mercato musicale mediterraneo significa affermare che le radici non sono un confine, ma una piattaforma di lancio. Siamo onorati di rappresentare, a Marsiglia, la ricchezza e la complessità del patrimonio folklorico italiano e del suo dialogo costante con il Mare Nostrum».
La band è composta da Marcello Squillante (voce e fisarmonica), Michelangelo Nusco (violino, tromba e mandolino), Vincenzo Racioppi (mandolino e charango), Gianluca Fusco (chitarra, fisarmonica diatonica e gaita), Antonino Anastasia (tamburi a cornice) e Bruno Belardi (contrabbasso). Insieme danno vita a un sound unico e immediatamente riconoscibile che affonda le radici nella cultura del Mediterraneo.

Concert/ Ars Nova Napoli in Amsterdam with their musical manifesto of a united Mediterranean. Before arriving in Marseille in spring
The Ars Nova Napoli are coming to Amsterdam. On Friday the 23rd of January, the neo-folk collective will take to the stage of the splendid and evocative Keizersgrachtkerk for a concert that is already sold out, organised by the city’s Italian Cultural Institute.
The initiative, part of an international tour supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), once again reveals the power of the musical manifesto of a united Mediterranean, of which the band is the voice.
In the presence of an attentive international audience, Ars Nova Napoli will transform the monumental Dutch church into a musical square with the rhythms of Southern Europe, retracing the thousand-year-old musical history of Naples, steeped in Greek, Balkan and North African influences, with accordion, mandolin, guitars and voices.
The Amsterdam stop is a prelude to further prestigious recognition. The group has been invited to represent the Mediterranean music scene at the next edition of Babel Music XP – the Mediterranean hub for world music, scheduled from the 19th to the 21st of March 2026 in Marseille.
The group will be present with its own stand, organised in collaboration with Italian institutions, to present the entire ecosystem of their work to international professionals, festivals and promoters. A project that goes far beyond the stage, including cultural exchange activities – workshops, masterclasses, laboratories in academic and institutional settings – through which they promote Neapolitan popular culture as a living and contemporary language of dialogue.
The band’s frontman, Marcello Squillante, comments: ‘This double achievement – the warmth of the audience in Amsterdam and our participation in Babel Music XP – confirms that we are on the right track. Bringing our sound, which is a sound of encounter, to a Dutch church and then to the heart of the Mediterranean music market means affirming that roots are not a boundary, but a launching pad. We are honoured to represent, in Marseille, the richness and complexity of Italy’s folk heritage and its constant dialogue with the Mare Nostrum.”
The band consists of Marcello Squillante (vocals and accordion), Michelangelo Nusco (violin, trumpet and mandolin), Vincenzo Racioppi (mandolin and charango), Gianluca Fusco (guitar, diatonic accordion and gaita), Antonino Anastasia (frame drums) and Bruno Belardi (double bass). Together they create a unique and instantly recognisable sound that has its roots in Mediterranean culture.
