incontrarsi, trasformarsi e generare nuove immagini.

Atrio delle Trentatré / Iole Cilento, Luana Di Sarno and Ellen G: three artists explore the boundaries of matter
The Line of Matter. The exhibition curated by Simona Di Sciullo, which presents works by Iole Cilento, Luana Di Sarno and Ellen G, has a straightforward title. The exhibition opens on Saturday 31 October, from 5 pm to 9 pm, in the foyer of the Trentatré in Naples, and marks the start of the programme for the first day of the Strane Coppie cultural festival, dedicated to the theme of ‘Borders’.
The boundary becomes a threshold between the visible and the invisible, between what is shown and what remains concealed, between private experience and the construction of the image.
Photography, painting, installation, performance and drawing come together in an exhibition in which the body, matter and space become tools for exploration and transformation.
The works are exhibited in the Antiche Cantine of the Atrio delle Trentatré, a historic space characterised by the presence of tuff and piperno stone, which engages in a dialogue with the creativity on display. Each of the three rooms hosts the work of one of the artists, creating a dialogue between architecture, memory and contemporary practices.
Iole Cilento presents an installation/performance born out of a meditative practice centred on the body, breath and movement. Following on from Y gru de/ Respim (2025), the artist continues her exploration through a new action, a ‘meditation of the heart’.
A tub filled with water and ink is traversed in the four cardinal directions: the movement of the body and the rhythm of breathing interact with the liquid surface, generating unstable and unique traces. Works emerge from this process.
Thus, works on paper and fabric are created using the ‘mminagafbi’ technique, which are progressively added to the exhibition installation over the course of the show, transforming it over time.
In Luana Di Sarno’s photographs, the body becomes a site of transformation and a surface of connection. The images emerge from the encounter with the subjects portrayed and convey fragments of an experience and a vulnerability that are difficult to express in words.
The image unfolds in layers: backdrops created by the artist, interventions on the body – ranging from make-up to clay – and transparent or reflective surfaces alter the perception of the portrait. The photographs, printed using
inkjet technology, accentuate the material quality and help to transcend two-dimensionality.
Ellen G.’s work stems from the juxtaposition and recomposition of fragments drawn from art history, nature and her personal imagination; in her collages, these are decontextualised and reassembled into open configurations that are only partially recognisable.
The exploration of materials in the work of these three artists becomes part of the process: water, ink, paper, fabric, clay, plexiglass, terracotta and tuff establish a relationship between body, image and space.
The boundary is the place where forms, materials and experiences can
meet, transform and generate new images.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until the 14th of November, with a closing event from 11.00 to 21.00.
