Torna la Festa dei Gigli di Barra dopo tre anni di assenza. Dal 31 agosto al 25 settembre torna ricco l’attesissimo appuntamento per tutto il quartiere. Il programma è stato presentato questa mattina (foto), nella Sala Giunta di Palazzo San Giacomo, dal sindaco di Napoli Gaetano Manfredi e dal presidente della Municipalità VI Alessandro Fucito, alla presenza dall’assessore al Turismo e alle Attività produttive Teresa Armato e dai rappresentanti delle associazioni coinvolte nell’organizzazione.
Un’iniziativa che affonda le sue radici nella storia e nella cultura del territorio (a Barra si trovano tracce della Festa già dal 1822), che definisce l’identità del quartiere e che da quest’anno può contare anche sull’intervento del Comune di Napoli attraverso la nascita della fondazione “I Gigli di Barra”.
Un passo importante per l’ulteriore tutela di una festa tra le più antiche del territorio campano, che si anima grazie al fondamentale apporto delle varie associazioni del quartiere, per la valorizzazione dell’intera Municipalità VI e del territorio di Barra.
Di origine religiosa, dedicata a Sant’Antonio e Sant’Anna, il rituale si svolge nel trasporto di maestosi obelischi di legno (i cosiddetti Gigli) di forma piramidale.
Ciascun obelisco è portato in spalla da circa 120 persone a ritmo di musica, con esibizioni più o meno complesse. Gli obelischi in totale sono sette e sono opera della maestria dei componenti di altrettante associazioni: Amici miei, Bravi 93, Core Nfest, Parthenope, Passione Infinita, La formidabile, La forza della vita.
Il quartiere si abbiglia di striscioni e bandiere dei diversi rioni che tappezzano i vicoli. Giovani e meno giovani si riuniscono per gli ultimi ritocchi necessari a dare vita all’evento clou: la parata dei Gigli, momento saliente della manifestazione, insieme alla sfilata dei carri folcloristici ed allegorici al cui allestimento è stato dedicato un anno di lavoro, proprio come per la realizzazione dei Gigli.
Nella festa, fortemente identitaria della comunità in cui nasce, si fondono fede, cultura, arte ed espressività creativa della tradizione popolare napoletana ed in particolare del quartiere di Barra. L’evento è ricco di appuntamenti culturali, musicali e di intrattenimento, oltre a laboratori per bambini.
Si parte domani, giovedì 31 agosto con la prima serata. Ospite d’eccezione: Enzo Gragnaniello in “Rint ’o posto sbagliato”. Il concerto è inserito nel programma Vedi Napoli d’estate e poi Torni, promosso e finanziato dall’assessorato al Turismo e alle Attività produttive dell’assessore Teresa Armato.
Da venerdì 8 a domenica 17 settembre ci saranno le alzate della Borda e le alzate dei Gigli spogliati da parte delle varie associazioni, le quali nei giorni immediatamente successivi si esibiranno in vari spettacoli ed eventi che animeranno il quartiere in attesa del gran finale.
Il 22 settembre arriva la processione di Sant’Antonio organizzata in 4 giorni. In serata, Carlo Faiello e l’Orchestra Santa Chiara proporranno lo spettacolo “Lux in Neapolis, Anime Napoletano”, anch’esso inserito nel cartellone di Vedi Napoli d’estate e poi Torni. Ospite d’onore, Isa Danieli. Nei giorni seguenti in programma il Sabato delle Fanfare, la Ballata dei Gigli prevista per la domenica e, infine, la chiusura, lunedì 25, con la sfilata di tutte le associazioni e l’Alzata del Giglio “Vivaio Barrese”.
Spiega il sindaco di Napoli, Gaetano Manfredi: «In totale sinergia con le associazioni rappresentative del territorio, ho voluto fortemente rilanciare l’antica tradizione dei Gigli di Barra. Per la prima volta, è l’Amministrazione comunale a organizzare la Festa nel quartiere insieme alle associazioni storiche. Per questo motivo abbiamo deciso di dare vita ad un’apposita Fondazione pubblica: una scelta basata sulla volontà di valorizzare una festa popolare nel segno del radicamento territoriale, della legalità e della cultura. Un impegno di tutto il Comune per l’intera area orientale della città».

Barra/ The Lily Feast returns after a 3-year absence. A foundation is born: the value of identity
Barra’s Festa dei Gigli is back after a three-year absence. From August 31 to September 25, the long-awaited event for the entire neighborhood returns rich. The program was presented this morning (photo), in the Sala Giunta of Palazzo San Giacomo, by the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi and the president of Municipality VI Alessandro Fucito, in the presence of the councillor for Tourism and Productive Activities Teresa Armato and representatives of the associations involved in the organization.
An initiative that has its roots in the history and culture of the area (in Barra there are traces of the festival as early as 1822), which defines the identity of the neighborhood and which from this year can also count on the intervention of the City of Naples through the birth of the “I Gigli di Barra” foundation.
This is an important step for the further protection of one of the oldest festivals in the Campania region, which comes alive thanks to the fundamental contribution of the various neighborhood associations, for the enhancement of the entire Municipality VI and the Barra area.
Of religious origin, dedicated to St. Anthony and St. Anne, the ritual takes the form of carrying majestic wooden obelisks (the so-called Gigli) in a pyramidal shape.
Each obelisk is carried on the shoulders of about 120 people to the rhythm of music, with more or less complex performances. There are seven obelisks in total and they are the work of the skill of members of as many associations: Amici miei, Bravi 93, Core Nfest, Parthenope, Passione Infinita, La formidabile, and La forza della vita.
The neighborhood is decked out with banners and flags from the different districts that carpet the alleys. The young and the old gather for the final touches necessary to bring the highlight event to life: the parade of the Lilies, the highlight of the event, along with the parade of folkloric and allegorical floats to the preparation of which a year’s work has been devoted, just as in the making of the Lilies.
In the festival, which is strongly identifiable with the community in which it originates, faith, culture, art and creative expressiveness of the Neapolitan folk tradition and in particular of the Barra neighborhood come together. The event is packed with cultural, musical and entertainment events, as well as workshops for children.
It starts tomorrow, Thursday, August 31 with the first night. Special guest: Enzo Gragnaniello in “Rint ‘o posto sbagliato.” The concert is part of the program Vedi Napoli d’estate e poi Torni (See Naples in the Summer and Then Come Back), promoted and financed by Councillor Teresa Armato’s Department of Tourism and Productive Activities.
From Friday, September 8, to Sunday, September 17, there will be the Borda risings and the stripped lilies risings by the various associations, which in the days immediately following will perform various shows and events that will enliven the neighborhood in anticipation of the grand finale.
On September 22 arrives the procession of St. Anthony organized over four days. In the evening, Carlo Faiello and the Santa Chiara Orchestra will perform the show “Lux in Neapolis, Anime Napoletano,” also included in the Vedi Napoli d’estate e poi Torni billboard. Guest of honor, Isa Danieli. Scheduled for the following days are the Saturday of the Fanfares, the Ballad of the Lilies scheduled for Sunday and, finally, the closing event, Monday 25, with the parade of all the associations and the Raising of the Lily “Vivaio Barrese.”
Explains Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi: “In total synergy with the representative associations of the area, I strongly wanted to revive the ancient tradition of the Barra Lilies. For the first time, it is the municipal administration to organize the Festival in the neighborhood together with the historical associations. This is why we decided to create a special public foundation: a choice based on the desire to valorize a popular festival in the sign of territorial rootedness, legality and culture. A commitment of the whole municipality for the entire eastern area of the city.”
