La mia vita a passi di danza. S’intitola così il libro di Giuseppe Picone che sarà presentato domenica 25 febbraio alle 11 in esclusiva per Danzainfiera 2024 .
Per la pubblicazione edita da Gremese, Picone ha scelto Danzainfiera, la manifestazione del settyore più grande e importante d’Europa che quest’anno festeggia 18 anni, per presentare il suo primo testo, affascinato dall’idea di farlo contornato da tanti fan.
Sono moltissimi, infatti, i ragazzi che da tutta Italia si riversano a Firenze nel weekend della kermesse (23- 25 febbraio). Quest’anno i numeri sono altissimi: saranno 9000 i ballerini che saliranno sui palchi, 270 gli eventi che verranno presentati, 14.500 i posti prenotati per lezioni, stage, workshop, audizioni e provini, 132 gli espositori di cui 46 stranieri. Picone racconterà il suo libro nell’Area meeting, dove sono previsti ben 24 incontri in tre giorni.
Nato a Napoli, Picone è entrato giovanissimo alla scuola di ballo del Teatro San Carlo. E lì, sostenuto dal maggiore dei suoi fratelli, Lello, ha mosso i primi passi di una lunga ed eccezionale carriera, cominciata con l’importante ruolo di Nižinskij fanciullo affidatogli quando aveva solo dodici anni, in un balletto interpretato da Carla Fracci, Vladimir Vasil’ev ed Éric Vu-An, con la regia di Beppe Menegatti (che firma la prefazione del libro).
Picone parlerà anche della sua formazione, della carriera ultratrentennale trascorsa in buona parte in giro per il mondo (dal Ballet National de Nancy all’English National Ballet, all’American Ballet Theatre), i tanti balletti danzati, gli incontri fatti con i grandi coreografi e con alcuni straordinari compagni di lavoro.
Ricorderà anche i momenti travagliati del suo lungo percorso artistico: come quello della lunga permanenza a New York che ha messo a repentaglio la sua carriera, o la difficile direzione del Corpo di ballo del San Carlo dal 2016 al 2020. Un diario di vita sul palcoscenico, ma anche furori dalla scena.

My life in dance steps. This is the title of Giuseppe Picone’s book that will be presented on Sunday, February 25th at 11 a.m. exclusively for Danzainfiera 2024
For the book, published by Gremese, Picone chose Danzainfiera, Europe’s largest and most important dance exhibition, which celebrates its 18th anniversary this year, to present his first text, fascinated by the idea of doing so surrounded by so many fans.
In fact, there are many young people from all over Italy who come to Florence on the weekend of the kermesse (February 23rd -25th). This year the numbers are high: there will be 9,000 dancers who will take the stage, 270 events will be presented, 14,500 places booked for classes, stages, workshops, and auditions, 132 exhibitors including 46 foreigners. Picone will talk about his book in the Meeting Area, where as many as 24 meetings are scheduled over three days.
Born in Naples, Picone entered the San Carlo Theatre’s ballet school at a very young age. There, supported by the eldest of his brothers, Lello, he took the first steps of a long and exceptional career, which began with the important role of Nijinsky as a boy entrusted to him when he was only 12 years old, in a ballet starring Carla Fracci, Vladimir Vasiliev and Eric Vu-An, directed by Beppe Menegatti (who signs the book’s preface).
Picone will also talk about his training, the more than 30-year career spent largely around the world (from the Ballet National de Nancy to the English National Ballet, to the American Ballet Theater), the many ballets danced, the encounters made with great choreographers, and with some extraordinary fellow workers.
He will also recall the troubled moments of his long artistic journey: such as the long stay in New York that jeopardized his career, or the difficult direction of the San Carlo Ballet Corps from 2016 to 2020. A diary of life onstage, but also beyond the stage.
